School Swimming
As part of the National Curriculum
Selkie feel very strongly that the same high quality teaching that parents expect from their paid after school lessons should be possible during school swimming lessons. For some children these school lessons will be their first (and potentially only) experience of swimming lessons so it’s a unique opportunity for us to teach water safety and ‘inspire a love of swimming’. We are proud to confirm all our school Instructors have completed a safe guarding / child protection course.
Our school Swimming Instructors are experienced, qualified, hold an enhanced DBS check and a valid NPLQ or Rescue Award. They are passionate about ensuring all children enjoy their swimming experience with us and get the best opportunity to make progress. All our schools participate in the annual ‘RLSS Drowning Prevention Week’ – this is a pyjama session which involves learning about water safety, practising survival skills and safe rescues. We also organise and host the ‘North Harringay versus South Harringay’ Schools Swimming Championships for pupils in year 5 and year 6 which is a highlight for us and enormous fun for all involved. We have developed our own certificate scheme for school swimming to help reward progress and keep swimmers engaged.
We are proud to teach the following schools :- St Ann’s CE School, St Marys Priory RC School, North Harringay Primary School, South Harringay Junior School, St John Vianney RC School and St Aidan’s VC School.
